T-Systems and DLR renew cooperation

January 20, 2010

EUR 125-million contract between the Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) (German Aerospace Centre) and T-Systems.
The DLR will continue to obtain all of its basic IT services from T-Systems in the coming five years. The Deutsche Telekom subsidiary beat out its competition in a Europe-wide call for bids. “The fact that our long-time partner was able to win out in an open call for bids is proof of the quality of our past cooperation," says Dr. Hans-Joachim Popp, IT Manager and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of DLR.
All-around service for research institutions
The agreed-upon services include the further development, set-up, operation and support of computers, communication infrastructures and application systems as well as consulting services. The spectrum of services ranges from telephones to standardized and highly specialized IT workstations to supercomputers and grid computing. Dr. Hans-Joachim Popp: “We consistently obtain all of our basic IT services from an external supplier. For this reason the DLR is a pioneer in the area of state-of-the-art IT purchasing for research institutes.”
"With our subsidiary ‘T-Systems Solutions for Research’, we have a strong service provider for the science and research sector," says Reinhard Clemens, Member of the Deutsche Telekom Board of Management and CEO T-Systems. We are pooling the products and services of Deutsche Telekom to meet the unique requirements of the DLR.
