Freight companies can save costs and protect the environment with a new telematics solution. Together with MAN, T-Systems has developed another linked car solution.
By signing certain maintenance contracts, MAN customers can now get the MAN Go2 telematics package free of charge and use it throughout Europe. The package features modules for vehicle deployment analysis and a maintenance concept. With the package, freight companies can reduce fuel consumption by up to 20% and deploy trucks more efficiently. The telematics system can be used to optimally plan maintenance work, thereby minimizing expensive downtime. That means additional savings for truck companies, smoother operations for freight companies and guaranteed on-time delivery.
Shorter downtime and less fuel
The system, developed by MAN and T-Systems, registers brake wear and monitors different maintenance intervals. These data are all sent to a newly designed maintenance portal that can be accessed by the freight companies as well as MAN service centers. The service centers use these data to determine the best time for the next inspection and schedule an appointment.
The telematics system's features can be expanded as needed. Freight companies can use the system to locate trucks along the route and optimize truck control and capacity utilization. Over 5,000 vehicles currently benefit from the telematics service. T-Systems operates the maintenance data portal and servers and Telekom provides the SIM cards and wireless network.
The solution is part of extensive activities in the automotive sector. Currently, T-Systems is making increasing investments in research and development projects for car-2-car communication and communications infrastructure in cars and commercial vehicles. With our technology partner Continental, for example, T-Systems is putting the apps you know from your cell phone into your car and is developing modules for standard car packages including Internet.
